Week 7

Last week was rough...I was forced to do a lot of unraveling. Apparently making a scarf with ruffles requires much more yarn than I thought, and no matter how I changed the pattern or swapped out the yarn or hook, I was always left with not enough yarn to finish.
So I unraveled a total of 3 scarves last week....leaving me with one finished scarf. But now, looking back on the finished product, I'm considering taking it apart, too.

See, I was hoping it would turn out like this:

Or maybe this:

But it falls a little flat and turned out like this:
So I think it's back to the drawing board on this one. I'll wait a week or so and let my frustration fade away before having another go at it.
I'll be working extra hard this week to make up for last week's lack of a lasting product. Project # 1 already completed!

Week 6

My finished hat! My first foray into knitting on a circular needle is officially a success. It's a great light hat, and will be perfect once it starts to warm up to the 30's and 40's (hopefully soon!). I only wish I had made it a little longer. Although it covers my ears, it could be a tad bit longer. Oh well, now that I know how to do it I think I'll be making more in other colors, and with other buttons :)
The pattern shows other ways of changing out the brim with different stitches, so there are a variety of ways to make this hat!

I'm back to crochet this week, and thinking ruffles...stay tuned!!

Round and Round

I am currently in the process of knitting my first project with a circular needle in the round!
Here are a few quick snaps of my hat-in-progress:

I'm thinking spring with my choice of this lovely green wool with flecks of gold! It's been sitting in my stash for way too long and I'm excited to turn this into a hat for myself.

As with any new knitting technique, I found myself feeling nervous and worried I wasn't doing it right at first, but now that I've got this down I'm finding it hard to stop. There are no rows, I can just keep going around and around and around without stopping and turning my work. And there are no annoying needles in the way like with double pointed knitting in the round.
I see more hats in my future...so if you want one, let me know...because I can knit hats now! Oh, and socks too :)

Week 5

Week 5 kept my fingers busybusybusy. As a result, I not only finished one new thing, but actually finished 4 things! Yes!
Okay, so all but three of these things were projects I had previously started, but that's not going to stop me from feeling totally accomplished and awesome!

So first up, I finished this beautiful scarf that I had only not finished because I was waiting on more yarn.
I lovelovelove the color pattern the yarn creates. The colors are so rich and the yarn is just gorgeous in person! Hmm maybe I should keep this one for myself instead....

Next I made this scarf from all the little squares I was working on last week:
This one turned out very pretty, but was a looong process. First making lots of little colorful flowers, then making those into the little squares, then sewing them all together, then tucking in millions of ends, and finally adding a scalloped border. Phew! Glad that's over! On to something simpler I think.

I had made this baby bib back in the fall I think, and just had never gotten around to embellishing it. So here it is, finally finished a few months later:

And finally some wristwarmers I thought up and finished on Sunday:
It's amazing how much you can get done with a Saturday night all to yourself! Netflix streaming movies and m&ms help too ;)

i heart....

This bowl! Ohmygod I want this! I need this! What an adorable idea (because really, when you have a ball of yarn it rolls all over the place), and the color is killing me!
I will be putting this on my wish list....and maybe some day I can have one while I sit knitting or crocheting in my very own crafting room ;)
Hey, a girl can dream, right??

p.s. tomorrow's friday, finally! YAY!

Week 4 (better late than never!)

Posting a little later than I had planned, but it's been a busy week at home, and last night was devoted to watching 3 hours of the season premiere of LOST....oops!

Well anyways, last week was pretty productive in terms of crafting. I got a lot of work done on projects I had already started, and ran out of yarn a few times. And then realized that I have far too many "works in progress", but no place to keep all the unfinished projects. So I pulled out the old sewing machine and whipped together a few project bags with some scrap fabric and ribbon. They turned out great and have come in handy already!

Sunday we made a trip to the craft store for some yarn to finish projects and of course I picked up some new skeins for future crafts ;)
I also picked up a great stamp to use in my Etsy shop!

Here's a sneak peek at what I am currently working on (a custom order). Lots of little squares, which means lots of ends to tuck in! Yikes! Time to get back to work so I can hopefully finish by the end of the week!
